What to do When You're Behind Pace
As the 1st quarter wraps up this is an excellent time to review your progress on annual goals and objectives. Its crucial you do this with honesty and perspective. Also, prepare yourself to tackle the situation.
Most owners fall into one of three categories: Ahead of pace, On pace, or Behind pace. If you find yourself in that third category, the "Cost of Doing Nothing" is about to get very expensive. Here are 2 simple steps that can get you back on track.
Step 1: Occupy the Right Brain
Logic often gets stuck when stress is high. To clear the mental deck, you have to shift your environment.
The Science: By engaging in a creative or physical activity—a walk, music, or even a change of scenery—you occupy the right side of your brain. This "distraction" actually frees up your logical left brain to work on the facts and activities without the interference of anxiety.
Step 2: Shrink the Task
If a goal on your list has been sitting there for weeks, it’s likely too vague or too large. "Marketing Strategy" is an intimidating task; "Write 3 social media hooks" is an achievable activity.
Calendar-Ready Actions: Take your stalled goal and break it into steps so small they have to be achieved. Then, put them on the calendar in a specific order.
The Power of the Board
This is exactly why we gather for ActionBOARDs. We help you identify your pace and provide the accountability to break down the "mountains" into "molehills."
